Note From Our President

To all Women's Council of REALTORS® Members: WOW! It is hard to believe this year in Women's Council of REALTORS® is already more than half over!! First, I want to congratulate our newly elected Leadership Team for 2012. Lori will begin serving on January 1st with Molly McGee as her President Elect and the excellent team re-elected from last year, which includes Katie Linares, VP Membership; Christina Herzig, Treasurer and Ann Love McPherson, Secretary. Congratulations to all of you!

Summing up this last quarter it has had its ups and downs. The real estate news impacts all of us, and listening to Leslie Appleton-Young do her yearly report at the MCAR Membership meeting- was not totally optimistic. Leslie predicts a relatively flat market for this coming year but said the horizon is looking closer. She reminded us that it does seem we are all working harder -- for less money -- and that's because it's true! But she also reminded us WE WERE WORKING! While loans are harder to get and short sales are hard to close, we all need to persist in getting the job done. We need to be tough yet ready to change as it is needed.

One thing we all need to pay attention to are the many Calls to Action from NAR and CAR and MCAR's Government Relations Director, when they request us to write to our Legislator's regarding the many important issues before Congress. We are fighting for the right of Americans to Home Ownership, which is being attacked by legislation such as 'removing the home ownership tax deduction, the loss of flood insurance and the removal of jumbo home loan limits, which severely affect our way of life here on the Monterey Peninsula.

In September there are many of us who will be attending the California State Chapter of Women's Council of REALTORS® Meeting in San Jose. This is an excellent opportunity for any of you interested in Women's Council of REALTORS® to take advantage of the close proximity of this years' meeting. Please let any Women's Council of REALTORS® Officer know if you are interested in attending.

We still have a few more months of Business Resource Meetings before the end of the year. A very special event with Lorna Hines, World Renowned Coach and Trainer in October and of course our Biggest Fund Raiser of the Year!!

Our Fashion Show, which will be held on September 29th at The Inn at Spanish Bay, AN EVENING IN PARIS, promises to be our greatest show ever! Save the date, remind your friends and don't forget to get a ticket for your MOM! You will be hearing much more on that as the date grows closer.

I hope this newsletter finds all of you enjoying the summer, playing with friends and family and selling homes as fast as you can! See you at the Fashion Show!

With my Highest Regards,
Judi hartwell

President Elect

Leadership Academy

Every August all the President Elects of Women's Council of REALTORS® attend Leadership Academy which is a weekend conference held in Chicago. I had the privilege of attending this informative weekend and I would like to thank the membership of Women’s Council of REALTORS® Monterey Chapter for that opportunity.

I met the majority of upcoming Presidents from around the nation. We went over planning, fiscal responsibility, growing our membership and ways to show value to our members by providing relevant programs. It was about planning, vision and leadership.

In the next few months your future leadership team will be planning for the 2012 year. I think it is important to reach out and take the pulse of our members to get an idea of areas you would like to serve and/or what programs you are interested in. I think we have had a fabulous year of Business Resource Meetings and many thanks go to Karen Calley, the current Chair of our Education and Programs Committee, and her committee. One of the goals of Women’s Council of REALTORS® is to bring cutting edge, current, and exciting Business Resource Meetings to our members. Programs that help us with our Real Estate Business, by providing information on the ever changing landscape of our market place.

Please keep your eye out for an informational mailer that will arrive in the mail from the 2012 Leadership Team. When it arrives, please take a moment to preview, complete, and return. It is our desire to serve your needs even better and your answers to our questions will be a tremendous help. Let’s step into 2012 with new excitement. I look forward to serving the Monterey Chapter of Women’s Council of REALTORS® in 2012.
